Nikon Z Series Wi-Fi Camera Support

IOC Snapshot supports compatible Nikon Z Series mirrorless cameras over Wi-Fi.

Our Nikon integration is designed specifically for Nikon Z Series cameras. We currently do not support Nikon D Series cameras or other older Nikon models with this Wi-Fi connection.

This is a Wi-Fi only connection. The camera communicates directly with IOC Snapshot over your network, so no USB cable is required during normal use.

How Nikon Wi-Fi Works

The Nikon camera is paired with the computer and connected over Wi-Fi. Once pairing is complete, IOC Snapshot can reconnect to the camera and receive photographs wirelessly.

The initial pairing process requires confirmation on both the camera and computer. The camera will display a verification code, and the same code must be confirmed on the computer before pairing is completed.

Once the camera has been successfully paired, the pairing information is remembered for future connections.

The saved Nikon pairing information can also be copied to another computer. The additional computer can then use the same pairing information to connect automatically without repeating the complete pairing process.

This is especially useful when setting up multiple operatories or replacing a computer.

Test the Camera First

Before attempting to use the camera inside IOC Snapshot, we recommend testing it with the included Nikon WiFi Receiver application.

The Nikon WiFi Receiver allows you to:

  • Discover your Nikon Z Series camera.
  • Pair the camera with the computer.
  • Confirm the pairing verification code.
  • Verify that the camera can connect over Wi-Fi.
  • Verify that photographs can successfully transfer to the computer.

Once you can successfully take a photograph and receive it in Nikon WiFi Receiver, the camera is ready to be used with IOC Snapshot.

Watch the Nikon Z Series Wi-Fi setup video:

The video above walks through the camera settings, Wi-Fi connection, discovery, pairing process and initial test in much more detail.

Once the camera has been paired, the saved Nikon pairing information can also be transferred to another computer so that it can connect using the existing camera pairing without repeating the complete setup.

Using Your Nikon Camera with IOC Snapshot

After successfully testing your camera with Nikon WiFi Receiver, open IOC Snapshot Twain Driver or other program (Dexis Snapshot or VixWin Snapshot for example) and click the Phone/DSLR button.

This is the same button used for supported iPhone, Android, Canon, Nikon and Sony camera connections.

When the Nikon camera is connected and ready, the Phone/DSLR button will turn green indicating that a camera connection is available.

Take photographs normally using the shutter button on the Nikon camera. IOC Snapshot will receive the photographs wirelessly and import them into your imaging session.

If the saved pairing information has been copied from another computer, IOC Snapshot can use that existing pairing information to reconnect without requiring the camera to be paired from scratch again.

Supported Nikon Cameras

Our Nikon Wi-Fi integration is intended for compatible Nikon Z Series mirrorless cameras.

Nikon D Series cameras are not supported by this Wi-Fi integration. For example, cameras such as the Nikon D7500 are not supported.

If you are purchasing a Nikon camera specifically for use with IOC Snapshot, we recommend selecting a compatible Nikon Z Series model.

A Simple Troubleshooting Rule

If the Nikon camera does not work inside IOC Snapshot, first go back to Nikon WiFi Receiver.

If you can successfully connect to the camera and transfer a photograph using Nikon WiFi Receiver, then you know the camera, Wi-Fi connection and pairing are working before troubleshooting your dental imaging software.

Only 1 computer can use a camera at a time!
